Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.

We finally had the chance to spend the Remembrance Day long weekend as a family. My momma came in to visit us briefly on Sunday. We picked out a vintage style dress pattern as she will be making me a dress to wear to my work Christmas party in January. THEN Cyrus mom made a spontaneous decision to come visit us from Vancouver. She stayed until yesterday afternoon and we had a fantastic time. She is the only mother besides my own that I feel completely comfortable around. Ben is as beautiful as always and seemed pleased to be showered with love and gifts from his Grammys all weekend.

Home Is Where The  Is

We recently moved which I could use as an excuse for my lack of posts... We finally left our old three floor, three bedroom duplex behind and moved across the street to a beautiful single floor two bedroom.  Moving into a smaller heritage house with hardly any closet space meant that I had to get rid of close to half my wardrobe. I made $100 cash and accumulated over $400 worth of store credit around town. I've picked up a few gems since the move...
My collection of fashion hardcovers, vintage hairstyling and street style books survived the move. After finally getting a new (or rather old) coffee table, our diamond has found a home. My father bought this solid oak table for my mom back in the 80's and she dug it out of storage last week and we gave it a nice new stain. It feels right to have something from their love in my home.

Mirror selfies in walmart because I don't own a full length mirror. Shocking, I know.

C H A M P A G N E    B I R T H D A Y!

I am officially twenty-four years old. My old friend and I are both born on the 24th only I'm exactly nine months older. We use to say that twenty-four would be the best year. Keep in mind this is back when we were seven and eight years old. So lets toast to everyone who's born on the 24th day of the month. To everyone who still has that hopeful child inside of them. To all the people who are celebrating their champagne birthday and lastly to all the people starting something new. I'm one year older, moving, and I'm a snake in the year of the snake. Bring it on.

I had an amazing birthday filled with amazing people. I spent the majority of the day with my new found love Sara. We drove to my mommas, shared laughs and some delicious vegan walnut brownies with coffee strong enough to give you a heart attack. We shopped around the town I grew up in as a teenager. Sara bought me a dress that I'll later share on here as well as some adorable kitty socks! My mom got me a modern jacket thats wool and tweed. I really needed something warm that I can wear with leggings and Nike's when I'm at work. I have a large collection of vintage jackets so it slightly hurts my soul to cheat on those but I found one I can work with. PLUS, I'm going to add some black vintage buttons to it. Sneaky Sneaky.

S U N D A Y    F U N D A Y

We've been spending Sundays quite casually as of late. Ben has a cold so we spent the majority of our time inside which wasn't too bad considering the on again off again downpours. We had a quick coffee date with Ben's Nanna Kate and our neighbour Mike (random, I know) I'm not actually certain but I don't believe there to be a family photo of the three of us. It's always either Cyrus and Ben or Ben and I. I'm pleased with how it turned out minus the fact that I had under 15 minutes to get ready and my hair was wet when we left the house. I'm learning to say fuck it to those things though and just roll with it because in the end, frizzy hair doesn't matter. At the end of the day the only thing that truly matters is the love that we share and the moments we gathered that day.

Sunday 15 September 2013

Friday 13th.
What has changed in the past month? We found out that our duplex unit was being sold and that we have to find a new place to live. I had mixed emotions but everything turned out positive for us. We were given a free month of rent and on top of that we are moving directly across the street into the house of our (my) dreams! We move in just under two weeks and I'll keep you updated with photos once we're situated. Two other new beginnings, one being that I coloured the ends of my hair red and eventually hope to end up blue. Secondly, Benjamin started his first year at elementary school!! Kindergarten is incredibly cute and he's made three friends in the first week.

Kitty face wedges: Ebay

There's a blue light in his eyes

These photographs are from a couple of months ago when Cyrus and I went on a beach adventure for date night. Our first few dates that we ever shared were spent on Dallas Beach and in the Ross Bay Cemetery so naturally we gravitate towards those places. I know it might seem weird that a cemetery would be a place for our first date but under the circumstances at the time that is where we wound up. I will forever think of it fondly and I am never afraid while walking within it. It's more emotional for me, thinking about everyone that was loved and lost and seeing elderly couples buried together, its heart wrenching. Perhaps I am just a strange woman because I find romance in the most obscure things. I do love this man with my whole heart and I can't imagine ever loving someone in the same way I do him. I feel blessed everyday that we crossed paths that day in October because if we hadn't, my life would never be the same. So I'm going to say thank you, because I know that he will read this at some point, for being the great man in my life that puts up with all of the bullshit and loves and appreciates me for exactly who I am.

And in the spring, love,
I want your laughter like the
flowers I've been waiting for.

I have been absent from blogging recently and for that I am sorry. I have been enjoying my life and all of the new adventures and challenges it throws at me. These photo's are from last weekend when I went out with Sara to see her roommate's boyfriends band play. Sometimes I forget what it's like to spend a night out with other women and be away from home. Although I had a fantastic time it made me realize how much my priorities have changed and in the end I just wanted to be at home in bed with the love of my life

Saturday 25 May 2013

A week in the life.

Here are some shots from the past week, enjoy!

My mother and I went thrifting last Saturday after we dropped my sister and her son off at the airport. It was horribly painful to say goodbye, not knowing when I will see them next. Needless to say, we needed a little retail therapy. The "nut doesn't fall far from the tree" my dad always says so clearly we both chose Value Village as our shopping destination. Something about the hunt is thrilling and I knew that I'd find a little treasure that would cheer me up for the time being. I got a couple of things but here are two of them. Hand embroidered, hand made kitty brooch! It's well over the size of a Toonie and totally adorable. Beneath it in this photo is a little off the shoulder floral mini dress in a baby-doll loose fitting style. It cost 5.99$ and I knew I wanted to try something new for date night with Cyrus so I made the "splurge". I spent $14.75 in total and left with a grin. Momma found some really nice things for herself as well.

Here is another shot of the dress. I'm in a window in this photograph so the lighting is different but I think it's totally adorable. I wore vintage silver dangly earrings and my hair is a low bun slightly to the side. Not a classic Kali outfit but I was sad so lets give a girl a break.

I snapped this beautiful candid of Benjamin on our way to school on Wednesday. We were looking for all the numbers and letters carved into the sidewalk and seeing who could spot them the quickest. He won, he always does.

Rain drops that were left behind from the heavy rainfall on Tuesday night.

If this isn't a meal designed for me specifically I don't know what it is. Vegetarian chilli with grated cheddar cheese, garlic bread, organic orange peppers, organic avocado, red peppers, organic mixed bean sprouts and pea shoots! I'm drooling just thinking about this. Comfort food at its finest.

I forgot my bike lock on Thursday at home and had to store my bicycle in the basement so a crazy crackhead didn't come along and steal it. This photo was taken on my second trip down to the basement, in the eery elevator...alone...at night. I couldn't go alone the first time and made Ryan (coworker) come with me! Ghosts Ghosts Ghosts.

Cyrus generally works earlier then I do so naturally he falls asleep first. I laid in bed for at least an hour with my eyes wide open. Eventually I had to make little pictures on Emma and Elsie's new app to try and get heavy eyed. I posted this one to Instagram for "Throwback Thursday". I miss my sister so much now that she's gone back to Alberta. I love you forever, Jenna.

It was my Friday night and I totally deserved it. New Cider that I'd never tried before from Sweden. My verdict? Delicious but too sweat. I could never drink a six pack of this, my body wouldn't allow it. No way, no how. I suggest it as a "sit in the sun at 4am on your deck and put your feet up" drink.

I spent most of Friday with this babe of a woman. We drank coffee's after dropping the boys off at daycare, met a new roommate prospect for her and made a tattoo apt.

Then we laid in her backyard eating quinoa/avocado salads and drinking Yerba Matte's. She's great at capturing hilarious photos of me in the midst of doing something. My outfit details for this are as follows:
Vintage floral 90's dress: Thrifted @ Value Village?
Orange round sunglasses: Purchased @ Flavour & Decade
Crystal Bullet necklace: Hand-made by me years and years ago
Bendable silver bracelet: Thrifted @ Value Village
Grey thigh highs (rolled down): Purchased @ American Apparel
Vintage Dr Martens: Gift from a friend
Lipstick: New York City by CHANEL

We went thrifting a little earlier on in the day and I found this mug to add to the collection! I also got a mid century style class and a 1970's green one. If you haven't realized, I collect kitschy and vintage ceramics and glassware.

Ended my day with some beers with my main man. I don't usually enjoy beer but I didn't mind it. We watched Evan Almighty, goofed around and made an epic chicken dinner. All in all, my only day off this week was thoroughly enjoyed.
Vintage "cat eye" ring made in Mexico: Purchased @ HUNTER GATHERER
Black "Drew Barrymore" sweater (She wears and almost identical one in one of her movies from the 90's) Thrifted @ Salvation Army

This is me this morning at 5:55am! I had to work the early shift and wanted to die. I was one of those people who, no matter how tired she gets, doesn't have bags under her eyes. Thanks mom and pops, I owe you one. For those ladies who do get them, try putting cold spoons from the freezer under your eyes when you wake up, I hear it works wonders. PLUS, its free.

On my bike ride home from work I passed by the flower truck that parks near my house and purchased this gorgeous peony for only $1. It's now in a clear vintage glass vase on my kitchen table. Outfit Details:
Blue Velvet 1960's jacket: Traded @ Lovely Things Vintage
Cream Crochet top: Purchased @ The Patch
High Waisted Leopard Jeans: Cheap Mondays purchased @ Rebel Rebel

Enjoy you're weekends, todays my Monday.
