What a strange thing, to be alive beneath cherry blossoms.

Yesterday was beautiful here on Vancouver Island. It was the perfect temperature to lay out in the field in front of my house without being overly warm. (I did ditch the boots and the denim jacket once I was laying down.) I am pleased that I finally got around to taking Bambi (my bike) to the shop for a tune up. I've had her for four years and used to put her to good use while living in Vancouver but ever since I moved back to the Island I've lived almost in the heart of downtown so walking just seemed to be the easiest option for me. This is no longer the case. Taking Ben to daycare with us both riding bikes literally adds 20 more minutes to my morning routine. I thought letting him bike and me stumbling behind him was the way- boy was I wrong. This week changed my life and I've ridden Bambi everywhere, even the shortest of distances.

After Amanda left for her serving job I laid beneath this tree for nearly two hours. Every couple of minutes Robins or Crows would fly into the tree and visit me for a short while only to leave and be replaced by another. Not a cloud in the sky and 13 degrees with a slight breeze would be my idea of spring perfection.

The rest of my day was just as lovely. When I returned home I laid in bed for a couple of minutes only to be asked if I would like to be taken out to dinner, any place of my choosing, by Cyrus and one of his longtime best friends Damian. I'm a classy lady so I obviously chose Red Robins due to the fact that Damian has a car and they have really delicious beverages and always tons of seating. The sun began to set and the sky was glorious shades of purple and pink. (I would have taken a photo but my phone died right before dinner.)

Home is where the heart is.

As of late, Amanda and I have rekindled our friendship. We've been friends since grade 9 so it was bound to happen eventually. She's a really fantastic woman who lives one block away from me with her son Oakley. They live in a gorgeous heritage house built around 1909. She has been living communally for quite some time but is the main decorator and has the lease in her name. Needless to say Amanda's done wonders to the place, especially the kitchen. Every time I visit it looks more and more finished and recently she found a retro vintage cabinet that matched perfectly to her table and coffee pot! It wasn't easy to unload from the car but we managed.

Amanda's son is almost exactly one year younger then Ben. His birthday was on the 23rd of this month making them both adorable loveable little Aries boys. They haven't had that many play dates but now that Oakley is four they seem to get along much better although Oakley seems a bit more whimsical and imaginative then Ben does but differences are to be expected. While Oaks was napping we had a quick drawing session in the kitchen and drank some coffee, cowboy style. Once he was up we all played in the garden and enjoyed some much needed sunshine!

Little Miss Muffet Sat On A Tuffet.
wish I could dress up as different things on a daily basis and have it be accepted by the public. Unfortunately this is not the case. I've done the whole thigh highs with a dress in public but I always make sure they are of the cute and innocent variety. Cotton, black, white, cream, you get the drift. I couldn't bring myself to don fishnets or lace uppers or garters in public- Possibly one day. Usually I just dress up like this while I'm making food or when I'm having a rum n'coke or coffee and browsing stylelikeu closet interviews. For all of you mothers out there, don't worry. I would never be caught dead wearing this around my step son! Only real people clothing permitted while parenting. This also excludes most of my vintage dresses because I'm much too afraid of them being ruined.

Today I moved more of my things from around the house and both bedrooms to my new walk in closet. I can't really call it a closet as it's a small room with a strange landing at the back of it, but it works. It also doesn't look much like a closet but more like a vintage store. I think its mostly because I collect vintage accessories as well as clothing. I'm a huge fan of both Art Nouveau and Art Deco pictures and paintings and hanging fur capes on the walls as art. This is a small peek into my vintage wardrobe. Its just some odds and ends as well as my dress collection. One of the many plus sides to reorganizing a closet is that you find these amazing gems that you completely forgot you had. The little vintage Gucci watch (I don't think it's genuine, and if it is, someone changed the back piece) My "K" brooch and vintage floral costume earrings are but a few of the discoveries of the day. The most EXCITING news of all is that my Nikon is up and running again. My friend Jesse finally had it fixed and now I need to crawl my lazy bum into storage and look for the charger, case and connector so that I can put it to good use! There isn't enough time in a day. I still have to fold the laundry, do the breakfast dishes and go grocery shopping.

Moonlight drowns out all but the brightest stars.

Just a few of my visual favourites this week.

When love is not madness it is not love.

On Friday Cyrus and I spontaneously decided to hop on the boat to Vancouver. I was still feeling quite sick but we hadn't gone since my 23rd birthday in September and were both feeling the need to escape this city. We left on the 7pm boat and returned the next day on the 7pm boat. 24 hour vacation. On Saturday morning we went to Sophie's Diner with Cyrus' amazing momma, Catherine. The whole place is full of kitschy nicknacks and bright colours- I feel at home here. The majority (8) of the photos are from Sophie's and we even came out on top with a bottle of their in house hot sauce for only $6! If you live in Vancouver and you enjoy or collect hot sauce's like we do, I'd suggest picking yourself up a bottle.

I was touching his face to make him do a genuine happy smile and Catherine caught this photo in the process. I think its pretty cute- we hardly ever have photos taken together and certainly aren't that couple who sits on the couch and takes photos posing together. I do love him more then words can say which appears to be quite apparent by the huge smile on my face.

I will quickly mention here that I do not own a scale nor do I wish to have one in my house because as a woman I feel like I might become obsessed with the numbers it shows me. I don't want to live by the scale I want to live by how I feel each day and by being as healthy as I can without denying myself the tasty pleasures of life. I'm going to admit that I got exceptionally heavy (for me) a couple of years ago. I had no purpose and no love and was horribly unhappy. My boyfriends mom at the time had a scale and I, no word of a lie, weighed 173 pounds. At that point I decided that I needed to make a life change. I applied myself by just cutting down on portions and not eating unhealthy snacks. I am happy to say that since then I have lost a healthy 34 pounds. I am now 139 pounds and standing at 5'9 I feel much better about myself. I haven't been under 140 since I was fifteen years old.

This is Leo. He is the biggest, cutest, fluffiest, softest and nicest kitty cat. Enough said.

Back when I used to help manage Retro Rock Vintage in Vancouver I would frequent the Wildlife Thrift Shop downtown. Most of the time is was a flop but on occasion it delivered, like this trip for example. I found these amazing cork and suede sandal platforms from the 70's!! If they fit me I would keep them all to myself but I figured they'd make a great addition to my Etsy shop. They are available here

I had a great trip aside from being sick and it was great to spend some alone time with Cyrus. I'm also very fond of his mother and brothers so I was pleased that I got to have a visit with them. I love family.
